C.U. Shah Arts College was formed in the year 1960 in the name of City law and Arts College. After this in the year 1966, the college found its own identity as City Arts College. Later in the year 1976, the college got huge donation from the C.U. Shah Family as a result of which the college was named as C.U. Shah Arts College. Some of the courses offered by the college are affiliated to Gujarat University, while some other courses are affiliated to Dr. Babasahed Ambedkar Open University.

The college has divided the subjects offered by it under UG course into two namely principal subjects and subsidiary subjects. The list of subjects covered under each of these categories is given below:
