Cut-Offs of IIT-JEE for Previous Years
IIT-JEE is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the country. One of the challenges associated with this exam is the cut off marks assigned to each of the papers in this exam.
Cut off marks change annually based on the overall performance of the students in the exam on a particular year. The cut off is the minimum marks that a student has to score to obtain a rank in merit list.
The cut offs are generally governed by the individual subject as well as the overall cut off factor. Any student fulfilling the said cut off is called for interview. Some details about the IT JEE cut- off of the preceding years are given below.
IIT-JEE Cut-off Marks in 2010
Individual Subject wise cutoff marks
IIT JEE has mainly three papers in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There is a difference in cut-off marks in each subject every year. Here the details about the subject wise cut off marks in 2010 IIT JEE exam is given below:
- Chemistry: Students of the general category needed to score more than 19; where as cut off score for OBC was 18 marks and 10 for the SC/ST/PD.
- Mathematics: The candidates of the general category needed more than 17, while those students of the OBC category required 16 and more. For SC/ST/PD students, cut off was 9. The cut off marks for the Preparatory (PD) and the Preparatory (ST) is 5 marks.
- Physics: Students of the CML category required to have more than 19 marks in physics. Simultaneously, the OBC needed more than 18 marks. 10 marks were needed by the SC/ST/PD categories.
Merit list total cut-off marks (For Eligibility)
Last year IIT JEE cut off for each category was different. The cut off for the CML category was 190 marks, for the Other Backward Communities was 171 marks and for the SC/ST/PD it was 95 marks. The cut off marks for the Preparatory (PD) and the Preparatory (ST) was 48 marks.

Subject wise cut-off marks
There will be difference in cut-off marks in each subject like three papers in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics every year.
- Chemistry: Students of the general category needed to score more than 11; whereas cut off score for OBC was 10 marks and 6 for the SC/ST/PD.
- Mathematics: The candidates of the general category needed more than 11, OBC category required 10 or more. For SC/ST/PD students, cut off was 6. The cut off marks for the Preparatory (PD) and the Preparatory (ST) was 6 marks.
- Physics: Students of the CML category required to have more than 8 marks in physics. Simultaneously, the OBC needed to score more than 8 and 4 points were needed by the SC/ST/PD categories.

In 2009 the IIT JEE cut off for each category was also different. The cut off for the CML category was 178 marks, for the Other Backward Communities was 161marks and for the SC/ST/PD it was 89 marks. The cut off marks for the Preparatory (PD) and the Preparatory (ST) was at 89 marks.

A candidate has applied IIT/JEE 2011 under OBC category and attended the examination. But, his caste was not included in OBC list even though his caste is BC -D in Andhrapradesh. Then, how his eligibility will be considered i.e, OBC or General Category. Please inform sir
