Personal Suggestion:
Be Perfect with the Basics, I mean right from the Grass Root level ; cuz the JEE is all about how "Conceptually Clear" you are !!!
Mind you.. The persons who prepare the question papers concentrate on this a lott..
Memorise the Trignometric Formulae and let them be on your Finger Tips!!!

QUESTION PAPER OF IIT-JEE EXAM

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA IIT-JEE :-

1.The candidate must have passed their 10+2 examinations from a recognized board with physics ,chem and math.

2. You must score 60% above in 12 th.

If you fulfill the above criteria then you are eligible for IIT JEE.

AGE CRITERIA:-

Your age should be in between 17 to 25 years.

study every topic, specially portions where u can get marks easily such as modern physics and each and every topic of chemistry. dont try to be scientist in any chapter, find out your weak points and do mark orinted study.
best way to judge yourself is to solve previous year question papers in given time limit.
buy a 30 years solved paper book .

Well to prepare for IIT JEE previous question papers, you need to ask your seniors. They have the photocopies you need to practice and sometimes they contain the solution to it also. You can xerox those papers from them and practice them.
Now regarding the next part of your question, you will have to maintain a strict routine. If you are good in mathematics and physics, then you can practice it yourself. Otherwise it is better to take some tutor in each of these subjects. After that divide the time for each subject that you are going to devote. Also from time to time give mock tests on your preparations. You have institutes which hold mock tests on IIT JEE. You can also try that online by registering yourself in the particular website. Follow these and I am sure you will do good.
