Students who wish to join the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology must first of all appear for the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET). This examination is considered to be one of the toughest of its kinds.  On top of this, an additional challenge is also put forth for the students. It is the cut off marks that are consigned to each of the papers of this exam.  The cut off score can be defined as the least amount of marks that are required for a student to obtain a rank in the list of merit.

The cut off score as well as the ranks for the JMET change every year. This is because of the high competition. As to receive a call letter from the IIT, the students will be required to score above the stipulated cut off marks. Detail information about the IIT – JMET cut off score of the previous years is provided below.

JMET Cut-off Marks in 2010

The JMET exam will have 4 parts. Each of these sections will carry 30 questions. The sections include:

  • Data Interpretation
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Quantitative Ability
  • Verbal Communication

The cut off for ever year will change. The cut off marks that were needed by the students to get a call letter from the different IIT’s is as given below:

  • IIT-Mumbai - The over all cut off marks required was 80-82. The rank that was needed to get a call was Approximately 350.
  • IIT-Delhi – The overall cut off marks needed was 78-80. The rank that was required to get the call letter was Approximately 550.
  • IIT-Kanpur – The overall cut off that was required was 72-74. The approximate rank that was needed was 1200.
  • IIT-Kharagpur – The overall cut off marks needed to join this institute was 72-74. The appropriate rank was approximately 1200.
  • IIT-Chennai – To join this institute the students needed 69-71 cut off marks. The rank that was required was approximately 2000.
  • IIT-Roorkee - To join the IIT – Roorkee, the students needed as much as 66-68 cut off marks. The stipulated rank was approximately 2500.

The cut off will be above 75 marks. The sectional cut off marks required for the different topics is as provided below:

  • Data Interpretation - 9
  • Quantitative Ability - 9
  • Logical Reasoning - 8
  • Verbal Communication - 8

The optimal cut off will be above 60. The cut off marks that are expected by each institution out of 120 marks is as provided below:

  • IIT Mumbai – 86 cut off marks
  • IIT Delhi – 80 cut off marks
  • IISc Bangalore – 76 cut off marks
  • IIT Kharagpur – 75 cut off marks
  • IIT Kanpur – 73 cut off marks
  • IIT Chennai – 71 cut off marks
  • IIT Roorkee – 67 cut off marks

JMET Cut-off Marks in 2009

The cut off marks will vary from year to year. The cut off marks that were needed by the students to receive a call letter from the illustrious IIT’s as to join the year 2009 is as follows:

Our estimate of the overall score required to get a call from different IIT’s is as follows:

  • IIT- Mumbai – The cut off marks needed were about 68-70. The rank needed by the students was 300.
  • IIT- Delhi – The cut off score needed by the students to join this institution was 64-67. The rank that was needed by the students was approximately 400-600.
  • IISC Bangalore – The cut of score the students needed was 61-64. The rank they required was 1150.
  • IIT Kharagpur - As to join this institute, the students needed 60-63 cut off marks. The rank they needed was 1200.
  • IIT Kanpur – The candidates needed 59.62 cut off marks. The rank they required was 1300.
  • IIT-Chennai – To join the IIT Chennai, the students needed 55-58 cut off marks. The rank they needed was 2000.
  • IIT Roorkee – To join this institution, the candidates needed above 54 cut off marks. The rank they needed was 2700.

JMET Cut-off Marks in 2008 and 2007

Provided below are the cut off marks that the students needed for the year 2008:

  • IIT- Mumbai - To join this institute the students needed 61-63 cut off marks and rank in-between 300-350
  • IIT- Delhi – To join this institution, the candidates needed 56-61cut off marks. The rank they needed was 800.
  • IISC Bangalore– The cut off marks needed by the students was 54-56. The rank that was requires was 1130.
  • IIT Kharagpur - Students needed 53-54 cut off marks and a rank of 1200.
  • IIT Kanpur – The candidates needed 51-53 cut off marks and a rank of 1300.
  • IIT- Chennai - The cut off marks the students needed was 48-51 and the rank that was required was 2000.
  • IIT Roorkee – To join this institute, the students needed above 46 cut off marks. the rank they needed was 2700.

Provided below are the cut off marks that were needed by the students to join the IT in the year 2007:

  • IIT- Mumbai - To join this institute the students needed above 68.75 cut off marks. The stipulated rank was 300.
  • IIT-D – To join this institute, the candidates needed above 63 cut off marks, the rank they required was 800.
  • IISC Bangalore – As to join this institution, the students needed more than 61cut off marks and rank of 1130.
  • IIT Kharagpur - To join this institution, the students needs above 60.5 cut off marks and a rank of 1200.
  • IIT Kanpur – As to get admission into this institution, the students needed more than 59.5 and a rank of 1300.
  • IIT- Chennai – To get admitted into this institution, the students needed above 56.25 cut off marks and a rank of 2700.
  • IIT Roorkee – To join this institution, the students needed above 54.5 cut off marks and a grade of 2700.

Those students who obtained above the stipulated cut off marks and rank were called for an interview with the board of the IIT.
