Re: Am I eligible for government job after passing B.Tech Mechanical with 61.90%? Is GATE score necessary for government jobs?
Yes you are certainly eligible to appear for several exams conducted by the central and state government. Entrance exam conducted by UPSC, SSC, State Level PSC, RRB , IBPS, Other Nationalized Banks etc. are for several posts in different government departments. To know more follow the employment news, you can refer, www.upsc.gov.in , www.employmentnews.gov.in for information on government jobs. No GATE score is not mandatory for getting government jobs. In some cases GATE score is required like the State Government owned Oil Marketing Companies need GATE score before applying for the entry level jobs in these companies.

heloo friend,
Mechanical field of engineering is an evergreen field of engineering which involves a number of government as well private job opportunities under either technical areas or other areas. Mechanical engineering involves the work under machines ,equipments and the related products which are used daily for different kinds of works. To appear for ant of the government job opportunity, you must have to appear for an entrance exam and you must also have to qualify that entrance exam. One of the entrance exam is GATE entrance exam, which is considered to be the most reputed entrance exam for engineers to get any of the government or private job companies also,GATE exam is too helpful in searching of the brilliant colleges for further study as master degree or m.tech courses. Government jobs for a mechanical engineer : --companies through GATE exam : NTPC ONGC BARC SAIL GAIL IOCL IGDR BHEL BSNL MTNL IGARC NAVRATNA MAHARATNA COAL INDIA etc. DEFENSE SERVICES CIVIL SERVICES ISRO DRDO CBI CID RAW BANKING RAILWAYS POSTAL MUNICIPAL TEACHING etc. good luck !! |

Re: Am I eligible for government job after passing B.Tech Mechanical with 61.90%? Is GATE score necessary for government jobs?
The answer to first part of your question is that yes you are eligible for the government jobs having completed Mechanical Engineering. Now as far as GATE exam is concerned, it purely depends on what type of jobs are you applying for.
Personally I recommend every B.Tech candidate to definitely crack the General Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE). Since you are looking government jobs, there are two good options for Engineering graduates. First one is Public Sector Undertaking and second option is Indian Engineering Service. Now if you are applying for the Indian Engineering Service then there is no need to appear for the GATE entrance exam. However if you are applying for the job in Public Sector Undertaking then GATE score could play a very critical role. The procedure of job in Public Sector Undertaking includes a written test which is followed by interview. However lately PSUs are shifting towards another format in which there is no written test and instead the candidate is asked to present the GATE score. Even the PSUs which continue to conduct written test give exemption to the candidate with good GATE score. Such candidates are not required to appear for the written test at all. Therefore if you are applying for job in Public Sector Undertaking then GATE entrance exam is extremely important. Indian Engineering Service The Indian Engineering Service (IES) is the entrance exam for engineering graduates to get jobs in various central government departments. These jobs are very prestigious and you will get proper promotion over the years. Those who have completed B.Tech in the following streams are eligible for the Indian Engineering Service: Civil Mechanical Electrical Electronics and Communications Eligibility 1. You should complete B.Tech or B.E. in the streams mentioned above. 2. There is no criteria for minimum percentage. 3. The age limit is 21 to 30 years for General candidates. 4. OBC can appear for exam till 33 years. 5. The relaxation is 5 years for SC and ST. Public Sector Undertaking The Public Sector Undertaking is term used for a company which is controlled by the government. The government usually has at least 51 percent stake in the company to keep the control. As a engineering graduate you are eligible for the jobs in Public Sector Undertaking. I have already mentioned the importance of GATE entrance exam when applying for job in the PSU. Eligibility 1. B.Tech degree in any stream from valid university. 2. You should score at least 60 percent marks in B.Tech. 3. Must be able to clear all pending backlogs before applying. 4. Crack the GATE entrance exam. 5. The age limit is 21 to 30 years for applying. 6. There is 3 years of relaxation for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST. |

Hello dear! If you have seen your Score Card you will notice that the Cuts offs for the GATE according to categories were given there in a block. This year GATE cut offs are: SC/ST - 16 OBC - 22 OC - 25 the above I gave is a approx. for core branches of Engineering. For different branches there will be different Cutoffs. You didn't specified your Branch so its hard to tell your eligible or not. But with 13 marks Its very difficult to get a government job. If your not a SC/ST candidate then I can Confirm your not eligible. Try HARD!! Better Luck Next time! |

Hi Guest,
Most of the companies in government sector ask for GATE score. So in order to apply for government jobs you need to have a valid GATE score. In order to get a job there are few organizations in government which does not ask for GATE score so if you are interested you can apply for those jobs. Thank you, All the best. |

hi
friend, your percentage in your graduation level are satisfactory to meet the requirements for the eligibility of the PSUs and other government companies. And as far as the GATE score card is concerned, yes it is the prime source for getting the job in the government sectors. It has been decided that you have to apply for the company and then you have to show your GATE score and the calls will be provided to you on the basis of your GATE score card only. gud luck |

Re: Am I eligible for government job after passing B.Tech Mechanical with 61.90%? Is GATE score necessary for government jobs?
Please go through the following points which surely help in clarifying your doubts:
# The full form of GATE is General Aptitude Test of Engineering. # It is not compulsory/mandatory for B.Tech degree holder to crack GATE. # But in current trend / practice, several Public Sector Undertakings as well as private companies required GATE score which providing jobs. # If any B.Tech degree holder cracks GATE with good score, then it will be beneficial for his/her in approaching job. # If you are interested in only Government jobs, then it is not necessary to crack GATE. # You can appear in Indian Engineering Service (IES) Examination which is conducted every year by UPSC for filling up vacant posts in various departments and ministries of Central Government. # Major eligibility conditions for above said IES Examination are: * Citizen of Indian territory. * Must have completed engineering degree. * Must be in the age limit of 21-30 years. * Candidate of reserved category enjoys the age relaxation in upper age by 3 years for OBC and by 5 years for SC/ST. # Apart from appearing in IES Examination, you can even in other non-engineering government jobs such as * In railway exams by RRBs for the posts of Assistant Station Master, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard, etc. * For SSC examination like Combined Graduate Level Examination * For the posts of Administrative Assistants, Block Development Officer etc in LIC Examinations. * CDS Examination * Civil Service Examinations both at national level or State level. * Technical Assistant or engineer in BSNL, DRDO, ISRO and many other companies. * For the posts of Engineer in Military Engineering Service (MES) |
