Dr. can be prefixed before the name of the person in two different cases. Those who have completed their MBBS degree and got registration as a professional doctor can prefix this. Those who have completed their Ph.D from a recognized University can also prefix Dr. before their name. That means that professional doctors as well as doctor of philosophy degree holders only have the privilege to prefix Dr. before name. In certain cases famous personalities are also offered with this privilege as certain universities confer a doctorate degree to such personalities for the contribution made by them in a particular field.
