With a rank of 5000 can I get some stream in the old iits?

If you are in GEN category then you won't get any of the 7 old IITs.

You could get IT-BHU (IIT Varanasi) or ISM Dhanbad.

If you are in OBC category then there are chances that you get an old IIT.

If you are in SC/ST category then you will surely get a good course in the old IITs.

For reference you can visit the JEE counseling brochure of last year to know the

exact picture of trend.

YEs, you can get provided you belong to OBC/SC/ST , even then you will get lowest branches.

Yes, you can as seats are also increased in old IITs , but you will not top branch , so if you ready to study in chemical or textile , then may fill your choices accordingly.

You can't even think getting 5k rank in IIT is useless because

You won't get your choice field.

But being a SC/ST there are Chances of getting something in IIT's, But if you are Not then you will Not get your choice Field.

No you cant get admitted in old iits.
For that you must got rank witthin 3000 rank

Yes, you may get provided:

1. You wont be getting your desired branch. Most probably , you would be getting textile, mining, dual degree course.
2. You should belong to some reserved category.

Even new IITs are developing fast, so its better to go in these if you are aiming for higher studies because teaching quality is same , only infrastructure differs.

dear friend, if you are talking about the score of GATE exam then it is very tough ... you may not get iit. but if it is IITJEE then there is some chance to get a seat...

Dont sure to say that you get admission ya you have a chance but not say yes you take admission but yes you try for NIIT or MIT..

generally in iit no. of seats are less.................5000 rank is not suitable for iit......but it is not impossible if the students who secured good ranks if they look for other option then there is a chance to get in IIT..........
