Re: Is it compulsory to have a degree in Aerospace in order to join NASA?
Yes, For astronaut a college degree is necessity and of course the grades in too either it is engineering, biological or physical sciencd or mathematics.
After college you need 3 years of related experience in your field. after degree and some experience its time to apply for astronauts positions.NASA recieces an averge of 4015 application to fill around 20 slots for every 2 years.and they call around 118 applicants from total for ASB interview based on experience potentioal motivation ability to function as team and communication skill. If applicant intersted in pilot or commandor position then instead of mission specialist then you have to go for at least 1000 hours of flight time in commant of a jet aircraft. These type of training you have to face and need to do in future that why many Many applicants do not meet medical standards while others withdraw after learning all that the job entails. After all these incidents Astronaut Selection Board chooses final candidates and pass to NASA and their decision will be final. Be prepare physically and Mentally as this not the 9-5 job which one expect but a 24 to 24 hr full dedication........ |

Dear friend,
Yes dear it is compulsory to have a degree in Aerospace in order to join NASA. When ever you join in this organization your position will be junior member in this organization and for this you have do anything at anytime and that is why you have to need this degree. But when you go for senior level then that will may not have to be done by you. good luck. |

Re: Is it compulsory to have a degree in Aerospace in order to join NASA?
no degree in aerospace is not necessary to join in NASA. there are different types of post in NASA for which different educational qualification is required. if you want to become Airspace researcher or astronaut then degree in aerospace required.
there are so man candidate from electronics and communication engineering branch and from other engineering branch are working in NASA. also some account officer and in clerical post only graduation degree or graduation in commerce is required. so you may be able to join in NASA from other field also but the work will be different organization will be NASA. best wishes. |
