Re: How to become a NASA astronaut?
Hi!
You are taking step in the right direction. If you are interested in research field you can join ISRO.To join ISRO you need to be an engineer with average of 65% marks in all semesters. The applied candidates are then screened through written test and interview. Bangalore institution of aeronautical eng.& information technology is a famous institute for aeronautical engineering. But you must pass 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and must have a fairly high percentage of marks in the aggregate. You must also pass the qualifying exam JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) conducted by the IIT's For joining NASA the minimum requirement is that you need to be a graduate. Former astronaut Dr. Sally K. Ride has given these suggestions for those who want to join NASA: "The most important steps that I followed were studying math and science in school. I was always interested in physics and astronomy and chemistry, and I continued to study those subjects through high school and college on into graduate school. That's what prepared me for being an astronaut; it actually gave me the qualifications to be selected to be an astronaut. I think the advice that I would give to any kids who want to be astronauts is to make sure that they realize that NASA is looking for people with a whole variety of backgrounds: they are looking for medical doctors, microbiologists, geologists, physicists, electrical engineers. So find something that you really like and then pursue it as far as you can and NASA is apt to be interested in that profession." Some of the useful websites that may help you are: http://nasajobs.nasa.gov/howtoapply/default.htm http://nasajobs.nasa.gov/astronauts/default.htm |

NASA is clearly the best of its field so for being a part of the it you will have to face difficult hurdles and you need to be the best everywhere. From India the best you can do is, you can join Indian Institute of Space Science technology popularly known as IIST and the entrance exam for it is ISAT. You will have to prepare well for the exam as the seats are very less. The eligibility for the exam is 12th(maths) passed with 60% marks. The syllabus for the exam is attached with this message. For any further information visit: http://www.iist.ac.in/IIST/compRepository/mediagallery/isat2010/brochure_isat2010.html Thanks |

Re: How to become a NASA astronaut?
You have to acquire anyone of the following degree from a good institute like IIT or IISC or IIST (most suitable, discussed below). Thats because it has been seen that students fron these Institute get plenty of oppurtunities to get there, and also there way becomes easy so far. And all of us know that with the world class Education from these Institute will work as a Medium to get us there. Besides these they construct there criteria such that only few person from Institutes like these or organisations like- ISRO, DRDO etc. can able to get there.
P.hd (Astro physics). P.hd (Geophysics). P.hd (Metaphysics) I mean to say any branch of physics which leads to space science, these are few examples. You can persue these degrees from IIT's or IISc, after acquiring these degrees from there you can appear for entrance conducted by NASA at international level for recruiting Astronauts,Scientists etc. but only best one can able to appear and crack it, because not only entrance is sufficient Medical Test, Pilot Aptitutde etc.. You can also work with our country's ISRO various entrance are conducted by ISRO for recruiting Scientists and engineers for carrying Space reasearch or various jobs. M.tech/P.hd (Aerospace engineering) M.tech.P.hd (Aeronautical engineering) Better to pursue these degrees from IIST.IIST conducts Admission to its specialized courses which leads in space tecnhnology. For entering into IIST you have to crack ISAT or IITJEE after that you will be provided Admission into B>tech if you have good performance in B.tech then you would also offered M.tech or P.hd. all study there is free of cost, after acquiring degree from there you will be absorb as an Scientist of ISRO. Besides these you will also get opportunity to join NASA, the best place for astronauts in the World. They pay $1,00,000 to there scientists or astronauts. Six Indian Students were involved in LHC (Large Hadron Collidor) experiment at CERN, they from NIT, Durgapur and were M.tech student. I would also suggest all the askers to Read a Article "Astronaut Selection Process" HERE I am sure it will be much helpful for all of you. Also checkout the FAQ's about NASA selection process Best of Luck Regards ~Faiyaz~ |

Re: How to become a NASA astronaut?
There are different posts in NASA ((national aeronautic space administration)).To become a Commander and Pilot Astronaut you should be a graduate from any recognized university. You should pass the physical test. Blood pressure should be 140/90 measured in a sitting position. Height should be 162 cm.Flight test experience is desirable. If you want to be a mission specialist a height of 158 cm is considered rest of the criteria’s are same as for Commander pilot.

Re: How to become a NASA astronaut?
hello friend..
see first of all it is very tough to become a nasa astronaut but it is not impossible at the same time. Basic requirements for an Astronaut Pilot include the following: 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics. An advanced degree is desirable. Quality of academic preparation is important. 2. At least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft. Flight test experience is highly desirable. 3. Ability to pass a NASA space physical which is similar to a military or civilian flight physical and includes the following specific standards: * Distant visual acuity: 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye. * Blood pressure: 140/90 measured in a sitting position. * Height between 62 and 75 inches. |

Re: How to become a NASA astronaut?
dear friend i will tell you some step b step information to get in the NASA .
1) AS YOU ARE NOW IN THE 12TH friend you have to crack the IITJEE entrance exam with the good marks . after scoring the descent marks in the iitjee exam you will get the admission in the IISC BANGLORE . as you decided to take admission in the iisc then you have to study hard for its entrance examinations. 2) after completing your graduation in the iisc or iist you will be selected for the research program in the ISRO ( INDIAN SPACE AND RESEARCH ORGANIZATION ) . you will get 2 years chance of doing research in the ISRO. AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH YOU WILL GET SELECTED INTO THE NASA. THANKS AND BEST LUCK FOR THE FUTURE. |
