Exam Pattern of Indian Engineering Services Exam:
The Paper I is an objective type test and is on General Ability. Part A of this paper is General English and Part B is General Studies. Total marks are 200. The English paper is aimed to test the ability of the candidate in understanding of English and the use of words. The general studies paper covers the candidate’s knowledge of current affairs. The paper also consists of some questions from history of India and geography of India. The questions are such that no special study is required to answer them. Papers II and III are also objective type and are from the subject chosen by the candidate i.e. from Electronics & Tele-Communication Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Electrical Engineering. The marks allotted are 200 for each paper. Papers IV and V are conventional types. They again are to be chosen by the candidate i.e. from any one of the following- Electronics & Tele-Communication Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Electrical Engineering. Each paper carries 200 marks. The syllabi for papers II and III which are objective type papers and papers III and IV which are conventional papers, are same.
