Re: How to become an Astronaut?
Hello,
There are many different fields of astronomy from the instrument building teams who work with their hands to the theoretical branches where mathematical ability and physical intuition is essential. So it is important to study physics and maths. The qualifications required inorder to study astronomy is a B.Sc.in Physics or Engg.and apply for a Master's degree programme in some of the Indian Institutions. As far as i am concerned there is no university in India which offers an undergraduate programme in Astronomy. At the Master's and Ph.D levels, there are several options. There are several institues in India which offers to pursue a career in astronomy like Indian Institute of Astrophysics, (Bangalore). Indian Institute of Science, (Bangalore). Raman Research Institute, (Bangalore). Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics,(Pune). National Centre for Radio Astronomy. Opportunities are available in most of these institues based on a joint entrance test followed by an interview. The minimum qualification required for appearing in the entrance exam is a Master's degree in Physics. Some of these institutes allow engineering graduates as well. |
