Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
Hello,
If you want to become as astronaut you have to study or get a degree in Aerospace Engineering or Astronautical engineering, so i can say to become Astronaut You should join the M.tech course in Aerospace Engineering or Astronautical engineering after completing your B.tech Program, also note that To be an aeronautical engineer one should have a graduate degree (B.E/B.Tech.) or at least a diploma in Aeronautics. So i dont think you can go for that as you are from Mechanical Branch. |

Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
hi!
To become an astronaut you should fulfill the following eligibility requirement: Educational qualification: Candidate should hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science (like metaphysics, astrophysics, etc.)or mathematics with excellent academic record. An advanced degree preferably a doctoral degree is highly desirable. Since you are doing B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering you are qualified to become an astronaut. Physical standard: height - should be between 62 t0 75 inches vision - 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye If you meet the above eligibility requirement then you can apply for an astronaut's job in NASA or ISRO. After applying you need to pass an entrance exam in order to become an astronaut. For more details visit the website of ISRO at: www.isro.org |

Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
Quote:
If you do M.S it is well and good. After college you need 3 years of related experience in your field. after degree and some experience its time to apply for astronauts positions.NASA recieces an averge of 4015 application to fill around 20 slots for every 2 years.and they call around 118 applicants from total for ASB interview based on experience potentioal motivation ability to function as team and communication skill. If applicant intersted in pilot or commandor position then instead of mission specialist then you have to go for at least 1000 hours of flight time in commant of a jet aircraft. These type of training you have to face and need to do in future that why many Many applicants do not meet medical standards while others withdraw after learning all that the job entails. After all these incidents Astronaut Selection Board chooses final candidates and pass to NASA and their decision will be final. Be prepare physically and Mentally as this not the 9-5 job which one expect but a 24 to 24 hr full dedication........ |

Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
to become astronaut i think candidate should have degree in aerospace engineering.
till from mechanical engineering also you may become astronaut. but for this you have to do Master degree(M.Tech) is aerospace related subject. after completion of your M.Tech with some proper training you may become astronaut. but for complete information it's better to contact with different astronaut center. they will provide exact details about how to become an astronaut. best of luck. |

Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
Hi
An astronaut is a person who deals with the space research work, in fact has to go in space too for further study about planets, our neighboring galaxies, and etc. Since it sounds a very herculean task, so the education and the qualification also needed for this profession is very high. I am going to give you a step wise process, which if you follow, would definitely get you become an astronaut. --> Firstly you have to pass your class Xth with a very high percentage so that you can take up science stream in your 11th and 12th. --> Science stream is compulsory if you want to become an astronaut. Take up science, and then pass your Class 12th with as high a percentage as you can. --> After that you should clear entrance examination of some very good college or university. Then take up any one of the following engineering streams : ECE, IT, CSE, EEE, ME. --> Once you are done with your B.Tech, then surely you have to go for your masters. Sit for the GATE exam and then do your masters in the related stream in which you had done your B.Tech. --> After that you would be eligible to apply for the astronaut jobs. Alternatively you can study further and increase your chances of becoming an astronaut. So I would suggest you, bank on your concepts and make them as clear as you can. All the best. |

Re: How to become an astronaut after B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering?
Dear, absolutely correct. I also follow this way. after getting bachelor degree in mechanical engineering we should jump to do aerospace engineering. OK. try to see Dr. Kalpana Chawla's history. She is an aerospace engineer and astronaut. I think her way i more better to get our great aim.
Thank you, Mithush |
