Dear,

If you want to become an astronaut then you need to do aeronautical engineering. Mechanical engineers work in space centers but they are not made to go in space ships. For astronomer an aeronautical engineer is taken.

Since you have completed your B.E in mechanical, you can go for M.tech in aeronautical engineering from a reputed college.

Some of the best engineering colleges from where you can do your M.tech in aeronautical engineering are:
  1. Jaya Engineering College Thiruninravur Chennai, India
  2. Park College of Engineering and Technology Chennai, India
  3. Guru Gram Institute of Aeronautical Engineering & Technology Gurgaon - Delhi/NCR, India
  4. PEC University of Technology (Formerly PEC) Chandigarh, India
  5. Continental Institute For International Studies (CIIS) Fatehgarh Sahib, India
  6. Indian Institute for Aeronautical Engineering & Information Technology (IIAEIT) Pune, India
  7. Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) Faridabad - Delhi/ NCR, India
  8. Flytech Aviation Academy (FAA) Secunderabad, India
  9. Khaja Banda Nawaz College of Engineering (KBNCE) Gulbarga, India
  10. Lord Jegannath College of Engineering and Technology (LJCET) Kanyakumari, India
  11. Indian Institute of Aircraft Engineering (IIAE) Delhi/NCR, India

For taking admission in these colleges in M.tech course you are required to qualify GATE with good percentile and rank. Also you need to be physically fit as any person with a history of any serious surgery or disease are not considered for an astronaut.

Aeronautical engineering is a good and with a good future, it is a great field both in the terms of scope and salary. Aeronautical engineers are paid higher than engineers from any other fields.

All the best!
