There are different pilot license like SPL, PPL, CPL. For that you will have to join the flying institute. It's cost around 20 lakhs. You can also prefer AFCAT instead of joining the flying school.

SPL: Student pilot license is the basic step to start a career.

PPL: Private Pilot License can be obtained by 60 hours of flying (with trainer and individual flying)

CPL: commercial pilot license can be obtained by 190 hours of flying.

Thumbs up Re: How to become a Pilot after completing mechanical engineering?

As you are a graduate you can apply for the Pilot in the flying branch through the AFCAT examination and this is the Air force examination and in order to become a pilot through this examination there are some basic eligibility to be satisfied that is.

Required Eligibility:
  1. Should have attained 19 years and not exceed 23 years of age limit
  2. Upper age limits are relaxable up to 25 years in other categories of candidates
  3. Should be a graduate in any discipline in order to get in to the AFCAT examination
  4. Should have minimum of 162 cms height in order to appear for AFCAT flying branch

These are the preferred eligibility for AFCAT examination for flying branch and if you satisfy these eligibility you can appear for the Pilot vacancy.

As you are of mechanical engineering graduate you can apply for the AFCAT and apply for the Pilot vacancies
