Sir, I am pusuing my b.tech in electronics and communicatio. Now i am in 2nd year and i want to join merchant navy. Kindly can you tell me how can i join merchant navy navy now or after completion of my b.tech?

Hi, you can join merchant navy if you have passed BSc nautical science or BTech in nautical science which is also called marine engineering. So if you are so keen on joining it, go for those courses.
You can join the Indian Navy if you wish to, but you have to appear for CDS for that.

Age Limits :- Unmarried Male and Female and age should not be More than 20 years but for SC/ST it has been relaxed to 5 Years.

Academic Qualifications :-
10+2 Class or Equivalent with Chemistry , Maths and Physics as Subjects.

Equivalent Examination includes CBSE , ICSE , State Boards

As you have Completed 12 and if your Subjects were PCM then you are Eligible for joining Merchant Navy as a Deck Cadets.

More Information :-

Selection is based on JEE Examination conducted by IIT a merit list is prepared after the written test and interview are completed and the Director General of Shipping has the authority to chose which of the 2 training programmes the candidate is best suited for (students can let their preference be known) Both the T.S. Chanakya and MERI institutions do help (under no Government obligations) in recruiting their graduates in suitable Indian Shipping Companies.

Physical Requirements

Candidates who apply for Merchant Navy should be physically and mentally fit. The Navigators are required to have a perfect eyesight, though marine engineers can wear spectacles for eyesight up to plus/ minus 2.5.

Colour blind people need not apply. The candidate must be immune to sea sickness.& Candidate must have height not less than 150cm, weight should be according to the height.

Placement can be through private companies or Government. Normally studen ts join merchant navy after 10 +2 , but you can also join afte r engineering by doing one yea r Mariner Course. You should concentrate on what options you have after persuing B.Tech in ECE. If you want govt. Job you can start preparing for IES exam conducted by upsc.
Why am I saying this..?? Let me clear. There is no direct way to get into merchant navy. You must take pre sea courses. To join navy you were required to choose either marine engineering or mechanical engineering for your b.tech degree. After mechanical engineering, you could take 1 year pre sea course offered by different training institutes like MERI (Mumbai & Kolkata), Training ship chanakya, Mumbai.
So, if you choose to join merchant navy you either have to switch to marine or mechanical engineering or you can leave engineering and join 3 years course in Nautical science. Another option which is open to you is to do a 3 months course for deck cadet with 10+2 qualification.

Hi, you should have better applied after 10+2 for joining merchant navy course i.e. Bachelor in Nautical sciences. Offered by T.S CHANAKYA and other private institutes like Tolani maritime institute.

Yes you can join merchant navy right after 10th from Siroi Maritime Academy of Merchant Navy. Myself Faiz Jafri from Lucknow. Yes, you can join in NAVY after completion of 12th through NDA exam.
The exam is conducted by UPSC twice in every year.

Eligibility for NDA exam:-

For NAVY wing:-
1.Candidate must have complete the 12th in science stream with 60% aggregate.

2.Candidate must be a citizen of India.

3.Candidate must be physically fit.

4.Age should be in between 16.5-19 years.

so i\it is bettr for u to join merchant navy after doing b.tech u can joine GME (GRAJUATE MARINE ENGG)

Eligibility criteria to join merchat navy is
1) have done 12th
2) have socred not less than 60% (it can't be 59.8 or any other percentage)
3) have PCM in 12th
4) age limit should be between 18 to 23
so sorry you are not eligible for this as you have not scored 60% in PCM as
well as 12th
so go ahead with indian navy by doing CSD
