The minimum marks required for getting admission in any engineering course in a college recognized by AICTE is 50% marks in each Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in senior secondary board examination.

But to get admitted in the Central government engineering colleges such as IIT , IIIT , NIT , ISM one needs secure more than 50% marks along with doing well and qualifying at least the stage one of JEE examination. As the merit list for admission in these colleges are based on the overall performance in both the boards and JEE examinations. Also for admission in the IIT you will have to secure at least that many marks for which you lies within the 20 percentile students of your respective board examination together with qualifying the both stages of JEE examination.

Also for admission in the engineering colleges manged by State government or any other top private college offering quality education with high job placements such as SRM , VIT etc. you will have to crack their respective entrance examination like State EEE, SRM EEE, VIT EEE, etc.

# The required general educational qualification in order to be eligible for engineering entrance examinations is as follows:

* 10+2 in science stream from any recognised board.
* Must have studied subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English compulsorily.
* Must have obtained 50-60% marks in aggregates depending upon exams to exams.

# The required percentage marks in 10+2 for below mentioned engineering entrance examinations:

* 60% for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced
* 60% for VITEE
* 60% for BITSAT
* 60% for UPSEE
* 60% for MPPET
* 50% for AIEEE
* 50% for State level CETs

# Now there is a single engineering entrance examination since 2013 which has been introduced by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). According to this provision, now tgere will be single two tier common entrance test for all engineering admissions. Two tiers will be JEE-Mains and JEE-Advanced. This examination is meant for admission into several central government engineering institutes like IITs, NITs, IIITs etc.

# Few tips regarding engineering entrance examinations:

* Keep yourself updated with all latest notifications, exam date, exam pattern etc through official websites of CBSE as well as IITs.

* Devote equal time to all subjects. Fix some additional time on difficult subjects/topics.

* Make a time-table for self-study and keep yourself strictly stick to it

* Try to consolidate the basic concepts and elementary knowledge by going through school books as well as other reference books.
