i am subham chhetri studying in class XI arts and interested to join indian army as a officer. I have already passed class X with 65% in 2010 ICSE arts stream.Now i want to get the information regarding preparation required for joining indian army as officer, after passing class Xii arts.

For joining army you can give NDA which is conducted twice every year i.e NDA 1 & NDA 2.
It does not matter whether you are from Arts but in NDA there is Maths and General Science paper so if you have maths as optional subject then its good otherwise you have to lay stress on that.
But for General science you have to work because it have Physics,Chemistry,Biology.Pattern of exam:
Paper 1-Maths (Max. Marks-300)
Paper 2-General Ability (Max. Marks:600)It contains Eng.,GK,Phy,Chem,Gen.Science,Current event

Some of the exams conducted for recruitment in IMA are:-

NDA examination:-You cannot go through NDA examination conducted by the UPSC since your a candidate from Arts Stream and only candidates from M.P.C(Maths,Physics,Chemistry) can go through this exam.

CDS Examination:-For going through this exam you need to possess Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.


Short Service Commision Techical Men:-you need to complete Engineering Degree in notified discipline.Since your a Arts student it's not possibile to go through Engineering course.


NCC (SPL) Entry Men:-The qualification is Graduate with LLB / LLM with 50% Aggregate marks, 2 Yrs service in NCC Senior Div Army with minimum 'B' Grade in 'C' Certificate Exam.

For joining army you can give NDA.

These are the two ways through which you may join the Indian Army:

1) 10+2 (Through NDA)

You have to take an entry level exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to join NDA (National Defence Academy).
Eligibility for UPSC exam :-
a) Sex :- Male.
b) Age Limit :- Between 16 1/2 and 19.

Application Forms are published in leading
newspapers during March /April.

The UPSC (NDA) exam is conducted twice a year (April and October)in all major cities throughout India.

Each year course start twice January and July.

UPSC (NDA) Syllabus is based on CBSE syllabus.

After clearing the written exam you have to go through a five-day interview process with the State Selection Board (SSB) which is the final step .

On completion of the NDA course, you are sent to the respective service academies for your pre- commission training.


2) Engineering Graduates (Direct Entry)

Engineering graduate can join the Indian Military Academy directly.

So, you only need to attend the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview.

Eligibility :-
Age Limit :- Between 20-27 years at the time of joining.

The course starts every year in the month of January and July.
Advertisement of the application form published in March/April & Oct./Nov in employment newspaper.

There are some selection procedure such as:

Combined Defense Services (CDS) Exam is generally conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) to recuirt the Indian Military Academy(IMA), Officers Training Academy(OTA), Naval Academy and Air Force Academy(AFA)

Generally,the notice is published in the month of March and September every year.

Upper age limit is relaxed up to 25 years.

You can appear for the NDA entrance test and try your luck. After or during the +2 tenure, interested candidates need to write NDA Exam for the Army wing of National Defense Academy. Candidates willing to join Indian Army through NDA Exam do not need to have studied Mathematics in the higher secondary level. There will be a compulsory paper of Mathematics in the NDA Exam, conducted by Union Public Service Commission.
For interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB) comprise of officers. Candidates are tested on the basis of current affairs knowledge. First of all, aspirants need to prepare bio-data which should have the residence and permanent residence address, schooling, family members.
