To join the CBI, you will need to appear for Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam, conducted by the SSC (Staff Selection commission) every year.

Candidate opting this field need to be very brave, hardworking, honest as well as tactful as he has to deal with so many high profile people..

This is a job of person with fire in him but that should be controlled by him and should be used as and when required during their raids and investigation judicially.

Eligibility criteria required to be CID/CBI :-

• You should have a Bachelor degree of any stream.
• Candidate must have attained the age of 20 years on 1st July of the year of examination and must not have attained 27 years of age on that date
• Upper age limit relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates

• Physical Requirements

• Height

o For men -165cms.
o For women -150cms
o Height relax able for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5cms


• Chest

o 76cms. with expansion

• Eye-Sight (with or without glasses)

o Distant Vision :6/6 in one and 6/9 in other eye.
o NearVision:0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eye



The examination comprises of two papers.
1. General intelligence & awareness
2. Arithmatic


After clearing the preliminary exam you have to for the Main exam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is an agency which detects crime and helps to solve cases. If you wish to join the CBI, you must take the Union Public Service Commission Examination. Candidature for qualifying the examination is graduation with a minimum of 55% marks.

In order to become a CBI officer you need to give an exam conducted by UPSC.

This exam is also know as the Combined Graduate Level Examination. They conduct this exam once a year for the post of sub inspectors in CBI.

Eligibility Criteria:

=>To sit for this exam you need to be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.

=>Age limit: 20-27 years.

=>There is age relaxation for the SC/ST and OBC candidates. It is upto 5 years for the SC/ST candidates and upto 3 years for the OBC candidates.

Scheme of Examination:

>Main Written Exam
>Personality Test.

You also have to go through physical endurance test or PET in short. Both the written exam will have objective type questions and the duration of each tier is 2 hours.

After passing graduation with any stream if you want to join C.B.I you have to qualify the entrance exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission(S.S.C).

Eligibility for S.S.C EXAM:-
>> Pass graduation with any stream from recognized University.

>> Age limit is 21-30 year.
For ST/SC candidate 21-35 year.

> Only Indian Can apply in this exam.
