Dear friend,

Those candidate who have passed Common Proficiency Test and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examination body constituted by law in India
or
an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto and passed CPT may join the Professional Competence Course.

These exams are conducted twice every year generally on the first Sunday of the months of June and December.

There is no restriction on the number of attempts a student can make at the CA CPT examination.

CA CPT Syllabus 2012:-

No. of papers:- One

Duration:- Four years

Marks:- 200

Two Sections - Two hours - 100 Marks

Section A:- Fundamentals of Accounting ( 60 Marks )
Section B: Mercantile Law ( 40 Marks )
Section C: General Economics ( 50 Marks )
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude ( 50 Marks )

EXAM DATE:-

June Examination:-

June 6th, 2010; June 5th, 2011; June 3rd, 2012.

December Examination:-

December 5th, 2010; December 4th, 2011; December 2nd, 2012

-This is the Common Proficiency Test.

Minimum Age Required:

-There is no minimum age required for registering for the course.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

For Registering for CPT:

-10th Standard Examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto.

For Appearing at CPT:

-10 + 2 examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto and a student is allowed to register for the CPT course after 10th Standard.

Group at 10 + 2 » MPC/BiPC/MEC/...!!

-There is no group that a student should pursue at the 10 + 2 level for taking up this course. As such, a student of any group at the 10 + 2 level can take up the course.

Minimum Marks % at 10 + 2:

-There is no % of marks that a student should obtain (either at the 10th level or the 10 + 2 level) to be eligible for taking up this course for registering.

Passing CPT » Failing 10 + 2:

-Should Pass 10 + 2 student can appear at the CPT examination immediately after 10 + 2 exams and pass in both the CPT as well as the 10 + 2 exams to be eligible for registering for the next level of the CA course i.e. PCC.
-If a student has qualified at the CPT examination but has failed the 10 + 2 examination, need not appear at the CPT again. The student can subsequently register for PCC after passing the 10 + 2 examination.

Registration » Last/Cut-off Dates:

-There is no last date for registration. A student can appear for an examination that would fall immediately after the minimum course duration (2 months from the date of registration) has elapsed.

Dates for cut off dates for registration:

– Register on or before » Same year April 1st

December Examination:

– Register on or before » Same year October 1st

Registration » Validity Period:

-The registration does not expire. It needs to be done only once.

Application/Prospectus » Cost:

-The application for registration Course:By Hand — Rs. 100,By Post — Rs. 125

Refund of Registration Fee:

-Refund of fee paid is not possible under any other circumstances.

I have done my registration with ICAI in December 2009 but i couldn't appear for CPT yet due to some unfavourable circumstances.

Paper Pencil Mode

In the CA CPT main examinations in Paper Pencil mode, the candidates are provided with an OCMR sheet along with the question paper wherein the answers have to be marked. These exams are conducted twice every year generally on the first sunday of the months of June and December.
June Examination

June 6th, 2010; June 5th, 2011; June 3rd, 2012.

December Examination

December 5th, 2010; December 4th, 2011; December 2nd, 2012

The dates do not change except under extraordinary circumstances.

Online Examination Mode

In the CA CPT main examinations in Online Examination mode, candidates are required to fill in the answers to the question paper on a computer. These examinations are held once a month in the 4 months preceding the month in which the Paper Pencil Examination is conducted.
Online Mode is optional

A candidate can attempt the CPT examination in this mode, apart from the Paper Pencil mode.
