Operating system is defined as the master system software of a computer that is responsible for overall functioning of the computer system including memory management and file allocation.

Hardware are physical components that you can touch or see, e.g. monitor, keyboards, printers etc.

Before knowing whether operating system is a hardware or software, you should know the difference between them.In simple words we can say that Hardware is that part of a computer which you can physically touch and handle like disks, screens, keyboards, printers, chips, wires, central processing unit, floppies, USB ports, pen drives etc.

Software is that part which cannot be sensed physically for example, operating system, an anti-virus program, the web browser, the memory, all data, reports etc. All storage devices that keep data safe and store it in some electronic form are hardware while all data in itself is software.
So you can now say that operating system is a software.An operating system (OS) is software, consisting of programs and data, that runs on computers and manages the computer hardware and provides common services for efficient execution of various application software.

Operating system,also shortly known as OS is a software.It is the most important program that runs on a computer consisting of programs and data.
OS performs the basic tasks like recognizing the input form the keyboard,sending output to the display screen,it helps in keeping track of the files on the disks.It controls the peripheral devices.
We can say that it manages the computer hardware and provides common services for efficient execution.

Operating systems could be classified into-:

multi-user.
multiprocessing.
multitasking.
multithreading.
real time.

os- a software thats helps in working & controlling of other softwares......
u can call os a master software...
which is accessed by hardware components..

os is known as rodsating system..this is a software package..we are unable to touch this..this is a set of instruction...os control over the hardwares which we want to operate...

There are three types of software-
1.System software (Operating system,linker,loader etc...)
2.Application software(Word,Excel,Powerpoint,Paint,Notepad etc...)
3.Programming language(C,C++,JAVA,Visual Basic etc...)

Operating system is a software approach.All work done in computer with the

help of operating system.It also used for memory management.

If you want to know about hardware and software then the main difference

between both is hardware is the physical parts of computer and software is

the non-physical parts of computer.

Printer,keyboard,mouse are the hardware of computer and

antivirus,opearating system,memory are the software of computer.

So operating system is a purely software.

software is a set of instructions which perform desired oprations. It is a logical.

Hardware is a device which is a physical entity whcih we can touch.

Operaring Sytem is a software which provide communcation bteween users and hardware like keyboard, monitor, mouse.

Operating System will be act as a cntrole manager and resource allocator

Operatingsystem is a software or hardware
