Yes, you can apply for the bank PO posts even after attempting the clerk exams. There is no restriction in attempting both exams. So, you can apply for both exams even at a time. And for the bank PO jobs you need to have certain eligibility criteria like - having a degree with 55% or more and having basics of computer skills.

Now, coming to the age limits of PO exam :

For general category : 21 to 30 years
For SC/ST : 21 to 35 years
For OBC : 21 to 33 years

Let's get into the details.

PO - Probationary Officers

PO's are responsible for the administration work in the banks, general banking ledgers maintenance and updating them time to time.

What's the difference you will find in exams of PO's and the clerks ?

PO's have more authority than the clerks in the banks. And the exam pattern is also different from each other. The topics for both exams are same but, for clerks the exam will be only in objective type and which are asked not from the depth. Where as the PO's the pattern is again same but it has descriptive test and asked from the depth comparatively more complex than the clerk exam.

Exam pattern of PO exam is :

There are many banks conducting the exams for the PO's but the syllabus and the exam pattern is almost the same for all banks PO's. Which covers the following topics.
  • General awareness or GK
  • Computer awareness
  • Aptitude or numerical ability
  • English language
  • Reasoning
If you notice the above topics, then you will find almost the same topics covered in PO's also (which are covered in clerk exams which you already wrote). But, you have to write extra test in PO exam i.e Descriptive exam.

Descriptive exam carries the general topics like essay writing, questions on banking industry etcetera.

After completing the PO descriptive exam, if you qualified there, then you will be called for the final phase i.e GD(Group Discussion) and interview.

In short, you will find the following phases in PO exam :

One is : Objective exam on above mentioned 5 topics.
Second is : Descriptive exam
Third is : GD(Group Discussion) and Interview

Yes one can appear simultaneously for the Bank Clerical & Bank P.O exam as the selection criteria for both exams is the written test. However the eligibility for both of them is differ as A candidate can appear for the clerical exam just after 12th class but a Bank P.O needs a graduate degree.

However some private banks prefer the Interview more than the marks as they need an experienced candidate.

So it is advisable to you to appear in both Clerical & PO exam as attempting an exam itself is a best way to gain something.

Hi There
The Minimum Cut off for IBPS Exams is 70% and if you Score this Percentage then you are sure to get a job in any of the 19 Banks. If the Question is set tough then 60% is the minimum cut off.

The Cut off Score Depends on Mostly:

(1) The average marks in each paper at National Level.

(2) The total number of candidates appeared to the examination.

(3) The relative difficulty/easiness of each paper.

The Cut off Marks are very Much Important and IBPS issues the Score Cards only those who qualify in the Examination

1). Descriptive Paper 10-15 Marks
2). English Language 12-18 Marks
3). Reasoning 22-27 Marks
4). Aptitude 21-26 Marks
5). General Awareness
