in few university of engineering it is compulsory that you have to do one internship after the completion of third year and it is included to the syllabus. internship is very much helpful for engineering candidates. because in institution they learn only some theory portion of engineering and a little bit of practical. but in internship they learn actually how the work is done in an industry. they know about the difference between the theoretical thinking and practical work. so internship is very much important.

now if you want to do internship then first you have to decide from where you want to do internship and you have to contact with that organization. if they become agree to provide you internship or they tell you that they will arrange for summer internship you may apply for the internship then you have to collect the application form( if any) or you may apply with the college training letter. you have to issue one training letter from your institution. for details about training letter contact with your institution training cell they will give you details about training letter.

if you have any relative and working in a industry which is related to your branch of engineering and you want to do internship from there then request him/her to refer you for the internship. with reference it is more easy to get chance in internship. you may also apply without reference if you don't have any reference. if you are selected for the internship then they will contact with you about the date of training and also confirmation.

there are so many private organization also those arrange internship for engineering students by taking money. if you are unable to get chance for internship in a good industry then go for this types of private organization.
