I don't think there is a subject called Mathematics for SSC and PO Exams. Instead there is a category called
-Numerical Ability or
-Quantitative Aptitude
where in mathematical questions will be given.

Apart from this, the other categories in the written exam will be
-Reasoning
-General English
-Current Affairs / General Awareness

Out of these categories,Aptitude is the one which will take more time for the candidates as it deals with calculations and formulas.

So, try to complete other sections first and finally comes to this area.

I have seen many of the candidates who takes so much time to solve Aptitude questions and then there was no sufficient time to answer the questions from other categories.

There might be so many questions for which he can answer in the list of those questions which he left without answering.

So, he himself lost good score due to this.

As per short cuts and tricks,

-the only thing I can say is have strong practice.

-Practice variety of models how the questions will be asked.

-Remember formulas and you should be able to judge yourself of what formula to use for what problem so that you can easily solve the problems in quick time.

Have good preparation for the Competitive Exam of whatever you are going to apply and crack it.
