Both Civil and Mechanical Engineering are evergreen branches of engineering. They have equally good career and job opportunities in future.

It totally depends upon your interest in which stream you want to make your career. No stream is difficult, once you start reading it becomes easy.

From government jobs point of view, both streams are applicable in every government jobs. If you are interested in Public Sector Undertakings, you need to crack the GATE exam in final year of engineering with good rank.

You can also apply for the exams like Civil Services, CDS, SSC CGL etc during final year of engineering.

Both these branches are the evergreen branches of engineering.
Let us tell you about both the branches and then you can see what suits you the most because at the last it is only you who has to make the decision.

CIVIL-
There has been a high boom in the market for civil engineers both for private and public sector.
Nearly all the PSu's(if we leave a handful of them) take civil engineers. PSU's like NHAI take only civil engineers. State organisations like GDA and DDA also make intake of CIVIL engineers in large numbers.

Now coming the eligibility and selection procedure.
>> Most of these recruit through the score of GATE. If you have a valid GATE score then you can apply for the posts.

>> Other than GATE some also conduct their own exams and clearing those you can become eligible for the interview.

Private sector is equally open for civil students with major companies like
- Jaypee
- Ambuja
- Birla
- L&T
recruiting civil engineers in large numbers.

MECHANICAL-
It is one of that branch who need is everywhere. mechanical and electrical are the two branches who finds application from IT industries to that of their core branches.

mechanical engineers are the first choice of all the
manufacturing industries
automobile industry
etc.

So, this branch also engulfs a large potential in itself.

So, the advise would be that you should check the subjects of both the branches and then compare about the standard you can bear with because as per the job point of view, they both are nearly on the same scale.

my friend both mechanical and civil are core engineering, none of the core engineerings are easy to study it just depends upon your interest what you want to learn.if you want to earn more you must try out for civil.

Engineering is at the present one of the most preferred career stream among the 10+2 passed students. Some of the top branches of engineering with lots of career and job opportunities are:

>>Civil Engineering.

>>Mechanical Engineering.

>>Electrical Engineering.

>>Electronics and Communication Engineering.

>>Computer Science Engineering.

The top four branches of engineering mentioned above are called evergreen branches because they have lots of job opportunities in public as well as private sector.

There should be no confusion for selecting the stream of engineering either it is mechanical or civil engineering. From my point of view, selection of stream should never be done on suggestions of others.

Both civil and mechanical engineering has lots of government job opportunities. After completion of bachelor's degree in engineering in civil or mechanical, you are eligible for following government job entrance exams:

>>Indian Engineering Services examination.

>>Civil Services examination.

>>Public Sector Undertaking jobs.

>>Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate level exam.

>>Intelligence Bureau ACIO exam.

>>Banking sector exams like IBPS PO and clerk exam.

Civil & Mechanical both are better you have to choose from this which you are intrested to do..

Civil Engineering :This is the engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, canals, dams, road and buildings.

Mechanical Engineering : This has to do with the design of any mechanical system and the assembly of different mechanisms to form a machine.

Mechanical and civil engineering comes under b.tech.
Functions of mechanical engineering:-

-product designer
- research and development
-manufacturing
-system management
-energy

Civil engineering:- look after fire controlling system
- building good quality of transportation like highways, airports, railways.
-look after right design for struction abd construction process, make sure the longivity of construction would stay for longer period after the completion.

*civil engineering and mechanical engineering are the ever green demand,it would have demand till the need of conforts reachs
