Hi,

The minimum educational qualification to apply for a company secretary course is 10+2. The course has three stages which are Foundation, Intermediate and Final. Foundation course is open for those who have only done 10+2. Those with graduation or a pass in final exams of ICWAI or ICAI can directly apply for the intermediate stage. After doing the Intermediate course and clearing the exams one goes into the final stage. To become a company secretary a candidate needs to be a member of Institute of Company Secretaries. For that one needs to clear the final stage by passing the examinations, gain practical experience and do the required training. A company secretary needs to have very good Communciation skills, excellent command over English, analytical mind and ability to explain things to the directors and decision takers in the company. Job prospects for Company Secretary are quite good and the scope for growth is also there. Remunerations offered are really good for company secretaries with salaries starting from Rs. 20,000 per month.

Company Secretary Eligibility

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India or ICSI conducts the company secretary course in 3 parts, namely, Foundation course, Intermediate or executive course, and Final or professional course.

Eligibility for Foundation Course - The minimum educational qualification required to apply for a company secretary foundation course is 10+2 in any stream. Students who have appeared in their class XII exam and are waiting for their results are also eligible for the course. However, the final year students have to produce pass certificate within 6 months from the time of admission. The foundation course is of 8 months duration. After completing the Foundation course, the students can apply for the Intermediate course.

Eligibility for Intermediate/ Executive Course - Gradutes of all streams except Fine Arts are eligible for a company secretary executive course. Candidates who are qualified in Foundation course and are below 17 years of age can also apply for executive program.

ICAI and ICWAI students, graduates, post graduates can take direct admission into Intermediate without having the need to complete Foundation course.

Eligibility for Final/ Professional Course - After having qualified in the Intermediate course, a student is eligible to study the final course.

The Company Secretary Course is conducted by ICSI.

The CS course is conducted in three stages:
Foundation
Executive
Professional


Eligibilty to apply for the CS Foundation course is:
>> 12th Pass in any stream
No minimum percentage of marks required in class12th



Subjects to study in the CS Foundation Course
English and Business Communication
Economics and Statistics
Financial Accounting
Elements of Business Laws and Management

ICSI conducts Executive Examinations twice a year that is in June and December.


Eligibilty to give the Executive level Exams of ICSI is
Graduation Pass or Foundation course pass of the ICSI


Cut Off Dates for Admission to Executive Course
28th February for December Exams in the same year
31st August for June Exam next year


Cut off Dates for Admission to Foundation Stage is
28th March for December Exams in the same year
30th September for June Exam next year
