Re: What is the meaning of Biotechnology?
For a simple definition of Biotechnology, we can define as 'the use of micro organisms to generate human beneficial products'.
Biotechnology is a budding industry in Inida and has not developed upto the mark in India. So, this can provide good career scope for the candidates of Biotechnology. Biotechnology now a days is otherwise termed as Genetic Engineering. Becuae by using the various techniques of Biotechnology, we can modify living organisms as per our needs. -Domestication of animals -Cultivation of plants through artificial breeding are some of the examples for this. Biotechnology has wide range of applications in various industrial areas. Some of them are -Health care -Crop Production -Agriculture Some of the branches under Biotechnology are -Bioinformatics -Green Biotechnology -Blue Biotechnology -White Biotechnology -Red Biotechnology Sceintis of Biotechnology are going to study the various aspects regarding genes in living things and will make practicals on the same. So, it is such an interesting field that we can make changes to living things or in other words we can say that we can create custom made living organisms. If you are interested to join Biotechnology course, you can opt for the same. It is going to provide good number of job opportunities in the future. |

Quote:
"Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use." In other terms: "Application of scientific and technical advances in life science to develop commercial products" is biotechnology. |

Re: What is the meaning of Biotechnology?
"Application of scientific and technical advances in life science to develop commercial products" is biotechnology. Biotechnology draws on the pure biological sciences (genetics, microbiology, animal cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, embryology, cell biology) and in many instances it is also dependent on knowledge and methods from outside the sphere of biology (chemical engineering, bioprocess engineering, information technology, biorobotics). Conversely, modern biological sciences (including even concepts such as molecular ecology) are intimately entwined and dependent on the methods developed through biotechnology and what is commonly thought of as the life sciences industry.
Biotechnology (sometimes shortened to "biotech") is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make useful products, and it is usually seen in agriculture, food production and medicine production. Modern use of similar terms includes genetic engineering as well as cell and tissue culture technologies. The concept encompasses a wide range of procedures (and history) for modifying living organisms according to human purposes — going back to domestication of animals, cultivation of plants, and "improvements" to these through breeding programs that employ artificial selection and hybridization |
