Re: What are the police ranks in Bihar? How to become an ACP?
Dear Friend
The hierarchy of different departments in different states are not exactly same so the name of posts changes and somewhat work is changed too. ACP stands for Assistant Commissioner of Police. In Bihar Police there is no post named 'ACP'. This post is filled up by Indian Police Services where the post is available. In Bihar you can become an 'SP' through Indian Police Services, which is equivalent to post of ACP in other state like Maharashtra. To get into Indian Police services you will have to qualify Indian Civil Services examination which is conducted every year by UPSC. For further details visit: www.upsc.gov.in |

Re: What are the police ranks in Bihar? How to become an ACP?
As a correction to reply of queries by esteemed members regarding police ranks:
After passing IPS exam u will have to serve as assistant superintendent of police while on probation for the first 3 years 1st yr1 star no ribbon,2nd yr 2 star no ribbon, 3rd yr 3 star no ribbon as an dy sp if posted in a district, SDPO if posted in a subdivision , asst commissioner of police if posted in a metropolitan (comissionerate system), or asst commandant if posted to a battalion of paramilitary force, on or after completion of 3 probationary yrs . and SP is the highest authority in a district and equivalent post are DCP in metropolitan cities and Commandant in battalions , IPS officers reach this post after a mere 5-7 yrs of service while SPS officers require 8-14 yrs of service to reach this post |
