In present scenario engineering is one of the most preferred discipline among science stream candidates after 10+2. It is the most preferred because it offers good job and career opportunities in private as well public sector undertakings. Bachelor's degree in engineering from engineering institutes like IIT, NITs, IIITs etc is considered to best for high package jobs. After bachelor's degree in engineering, you can enter into research field. These are considered to be pros of engineering.

The biggest drawback in recent times of engineering discipline is that quality of study in engineering colleges particularly in private colleges have degraded. Engineers of low technical competency are getting degrees. So, if you want to pursue engineering, you should work hard to get admission in top engineering colleges and in engineering colleges, study well to get your fundamentals right for jobs in different fields.

There are many streams in engineering, evergreen streams of engineering include Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication engineering, Computer science engineering etc. You must select stream of engineering depending upon your interest not on suggestion on others.
