For scoring a good GATE rank you should have good command in your core subject.

Try to improve your depth in these portion-
1.power & control system
2.circuit theory
3.digital & analog electronics
4.Machine (induction, dc series ,dc shunt motor)
5.Mathematics & physics

There is also a important part in gate "Aptitude". try to improve your verbal, logical, numerical aptitude. RS Agarawal books can improve your aptitude.

Best of luck..
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
