Indian Police Service (IPS) examination is officially known as Civil Services Examination which is held by UPSC once every year.

Further, the minimum qualification required for appearing in the Civil Services examination and therefore to be an IPS officer are as below:-

* You must be an Indian citizen.

* Your age must lie between 21 years to 32 years. Age relaxation is allowed in case of reserved category candidates as per the government norms.

* You must have completed your graduation from a recognized university.

Note: for the IPS, you must also hold the physical requirement per the service norms.

As far as you are concerned about the requirement of work experience of a minimum of 5 years in the Police department for becoming an IPS officer, then, I would like to let you know that there is no such requirement.

For complete details regarding the Civil Services examination, you can refer to the link www.upsc.gov.in.
