First of all to be a magistrate, the maximum age limit for the judge exam is 35 years. Also you must be a citizen of India.
As your age is 40 years, you are not eligible for this exam and post. Educational qualification:- You must have completed an LLB degree of the duration of 3 or 5 years from a Government and Bar Council recognised University. |

To become District Magistrate, you have to appear and qualify in Civil Service examination.
The examination is conducted by UPSC. Eligibility to apply for the examination is that candidate must have passed bachelor degree from a recognised university. The age limit is 21-32 years and relaxation for reserved category. Maximum age limit 37 years for SC/ST/PWD So, you are not eligible to appear for the examination. Other option is to qualify in State PCS, as every year one third of all posts within the state are through promotion from state service. The age limit for becoming a magistrate is 21_ 35 yrs.
5 years relaxation is provided to reserved category (scheduled tribe, schedule caste, OBC, skilled player of UP). As the maximum limit is 35 years and you belong to backward category , it means at the age of 40 you can apply for the post. |

A bachelor's degree and experience in legal matters is the minimum requirement for a magistrate position. In practice, the magistrate will have completed a law degree (Juris Doctor) program. As long as they are over 18 and can make the time for it, almost anybody can become a magistrate. There are only a few exceptions: Police officers, traffic wardens and members of the armed forces cannot become magistrates. This is to make sure that magistrates are impartial. |
