after completing MBBS I wish to become a psychologist,
is it a gud option? Is there anything else
advisable after MBBS besides MD or MS?

hello,
first thing to understand is the basic difference between psychiatrist & psychologist. in a more gross manner i can say that only psychiatrists can prescribe medicines & can offer a therapeutic intervention to a patient. generally after doing mbbs one can become a psychiatrist by doing MD psychiatry or Diploma in Psychiatry. on the other hand people from BSc psychology opt for msc psychology & they are known as psychologist & they are not allowed to prescribe meds.
now coming to your question, there is nothing called MS psychiatry & MD is the degree awarded in Psychiatry.
now talking about the options
for md psychiatry u have following options
1. neet pg
2. aiims
3. cmc vellore
4. nimhans
5. jipmer
6. pgi chandigarh
7. cmc ludhiana
8. state pg
you can also opt for DNB psychiatry via dnb exam, that's also a pg degree
some universities like aiims, nimhans, cmc vellore, jipmer also invites application for post mbbs phd in various aspect of psychology & psychiatry

talking about foreign degrees, mci recognized,
u can have frcp/ mrcpsych from uk & some uk affiliated indian establishments,
for that u have to clear plab 1& plab 2
also can opt for usmle to become a psychiatry resident in us & to pursue higher study in psychiatry from usa
lastly, the highest degree in Psychiatry in India is DM neuropsychiatry & DM child psychiatry, those are offered in NIMHANS, bangalore, can only be opted after one has completed MD psychiatry.
