Re: Can Mechanical students do M.Tech in Mathematics stream?
You have completed B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering so you are eligible M.Tech in Mathematics because you are eligible for GATE exam in Mathematics.
GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. If you have Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Architecture/Design or its equivalent or masters degree in science department then are eligible for GATE exam. Third year students are not eligible for applying for GATE 2015. |

Re: Can Mechanical students do M.Tech in Mathematics stream?
I am extremely sorry to state that students who have pursued their graduation in the field of mechanical engineering are not eligible for post graduation in the field of Mathematics. This is because the basic eligibility for pursuing post graduation in Mathematics is - you should be graduate in Mathematics or related fields. Since mechanical engineering is not related to Mathematics, so you are not eligible. However, if you score very good score in Engineering Mathematics stream of GATE, then you might get a chance of admission. But you need a very good score in GATE.
