Primary Teaching refers to school teaching in primary classes where teachers should be aware of certain means and method of dealing with the education of younger children. The paper on the Teaching of Mathematics deals with several topics that cater to the teacher’s awareness of the different kinds of students and the different problems they might face in learning and hence it teaches the different methods to deal with different students and help them develop an interest in the subject. Some of the topics covered in this syllabus are Mathematics curriculum, pedagogical considerations, characteristics of fast and slow learners, basic unit of metric system, basic geometrical shapes and mensuration, numeration system, low cost and no cost teaching materials, importance of mathematics at the primary level, Diagnostic method of testing, Heuristic method of teaching, ways of making a good lesson plan, its features, geometric concepts, percentage, Enrichment Programme of Mathematics at Primary level. The paper has 4 compulsory questions with alternatives in some of them. The answers are to be written in not more than 600 words. Below are attached some of the previous year’s question papers.
