The city of Trivandrum also called as Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of the state of Kerala, which is the popular state for the high literacy rate in India. The high level of literacy of the state clearly indicates the interest shown by people towards education.

The district of Thiruvananthapuram alone has five polytechnic colleges, two law colleges, three teacher education colleges, one music college, two MCA colleges, eleven engineering colleges, one agricultural college, one dental college, two nursing colleges, two homeopathy medical colleges, three ayurveda medical colleges and two allopathic medical colleges contributing towards the development of educational facilities in the district.

Of these colleges, some colleges are run by government of Kerala, while some colleges are private colleges. The list of government colleges operating in the district of Trivandrum in Kerala is given below:

Medical Colleges:

The government-run Ayurved and Homeopathic colleges located in Trivandrum offer BAMS and BHMS courses respectively. These colleges also offer MD and MS in different branches of medicine as well. The other allopathic medical colleges running under the control of government of Kerala offer MBBS and diploma, PG courses in 22 different specialties.  These government run medical colleges were previously under the jurisdiction of Kerala University, but now they are shifted under Kerala University of Health and Applied Sciences.

Engineering Colleges:

Government Engineering colleges in Trivandrum are offering courses with approval from the All India Council for Technical Education. These colleges offer UG course under the branches like electrical and electronics engineering, information technology, mechanical engineering and electronics & communication Engineering. Admissions to these colleges are done through the centralized allotment process purely on the basis of the marks secured by the students in the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the Government of Kerala.

Arts & Science Colleges:

The government-run arts and science colleges in Trivandrum offers UG and PG courses in arts, science and commerce faculties and the list of courses offered by these colleges is as follows:

Master of Arts in

o Economics

o English

Master of commerce

Master of science  in analytical chemistry

Bachelor of commerce

Bachelor of science in

o Biotechnology

o Physics

Bachelor of Arts in economics

Admissions to these colleges are done based on the marks secured by the students in the higher secondary examination.

Law College:

The only government-run law college in the city of Trivandrum is located in Barton hills and the college is offering UG, PG and integrated five-year course in the faculty of law. In the PG level of the law course two branches of law, namely the international law and constitution law are offered by the college.

Polytechnic Colleges:

There are four government-run polytechnic college in the city of which one college is meant for women candidates. These polytechnic colleges are affiliated to Kerala University and they are approved by the board of technical education. The women’s polytechnic college offer diploma course in instrument technology, commercial practice, electronics and dress making & costume designing, while the other colleges offer course in branches like electronics & instrumentation engineering, electronics & Avionics, Electronics & telecom and hardware maintenance.

Other government colleges:

The other two government colleges not coming under any of the above-mentioned categories are training and Sanskrit college. Sanskrit college offers UG and PG courses in Astronomy, Vedanta, nyaya, etc…and Ph. D courses as well, while the training college is meant for teacher training courses.

Thus, the city of Thirvananthapuram in Kerala with these government colleges is contributing a great share towards the educational requirement of the state thereby making the state as a number one state as far as literacy rate is concerned.

    if any available seats for pg course like ma economics.i got admission on first allotment,but i do not pay the remitted fees.so it was rejected.so what to do i next?
