This competitive exam is conducted by IGNOU in collaboration with UNESCO. The aim of this exam is to find and encourage science talents from South Asian countries.

Structure of IGNOU – UNESCO Science Olympiad

This Olympiad is conducted in two parts; Tier-1 and Tier- 2.Structure of Tier-1 and Tier- 2 are given below

Tier – 1

Three hour test will be conducted with multiple choice questions from the subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Marks and time will be divided equally among these subjects. Wrong choices will cause reduction in total marks obtained by the candidates.

Tier – 2

This is also three hour test with subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This part will be written test in which questions will be asked about the understanding of science and society, problem solving etc.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are eligible to participate in this Olympiad. They should be currently studying in 11th standard. Also they should have scored at least 60% aggregate in 10th while taking together their score in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

How to Apply?

Candidates should register through website to participate in the Olympiad. Fees of Rs.100/- should be paid through DD or credit card. DD should be taken in the name of ‘IGNOU New Delhi’ from any bank. It should be payable at New Delhi. Candidates from the countries except India need not pay the fee as it will be given by the concerned UNESCO National Commissions. After registration, confirmed registration form can be obtained by the candidates. Candidates who prefer payment through DD should send the print out of this form along with the DD to the address given below.

After receiving this form by the Raman chair, registration of the candidate will be confirmed finally and it will be informed through website. Candidates can check their registration status on website. Thus they can know whether their registration is confirmed or not.

How to fill the Form?

Start entering the details after reading the instructions given on the website. According to that instructions upload scanned image of recent photograph in pass port size. Confirm all the details are entered correctly before clicking ‘FINISH’ button to activate registration.

IGNOU-UNESCO Science Olympiad is one of the famous Olympiad with participants from other countries. Therefore the questions asked in this exam will be of higher standard. As it is a competitive exam, getting prize in this exam will be big challenge. Even though real talent can grab prize in this Olympiad, candidate can brush up their skills with good preparation and achieve their target of getting prizes. Obtain books which contain variety of questions from the subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. As problem solving capacity is mainly evaluated in this test, practice variety of problems. Attending coaching classes will be a good option to improve problem solving capacity. To solve a problem there may be different ways. For a competitive test as the time is limited, candidates mostly prefer the way which need less time. These ways can be studied from coaching classes. They will help students to develop their analytical skills and solve problem with less time. Read magazines which cover the subjects in the exam. This will help to understand new developments which have happened in these fields. That will also help to answer questions in the exam.
