Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College was established in the year 1971 with its name as Bhagalpur Medical College. The college was established under approval of the Bihar Government’s department of health and medical education. Jawaharlal Nehru College is coming under the jurisdiction of Tikamanjhi Bhagalpur University located at Bhagalpur.

Course details:

The college is offering M.B.B.S course with compulsory internship period. The intake capacity of the college for this course is 50 students every year, which is divided into thirty-nine students through state quota, seven students through all India quota and four students through central government nomination. The state quota of 39 seats is further divided into 20 seats for candidates falling under general category, five seats for BC, six seats for SC, seven seats for EBC and one seat for candidates falling under R.C.G. category.

Admission procedure:

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College is admitting students on the basis of their performance in the two-phase combined medical entrance examination, which is conducted at the state level. The minimum requirement for appearing in the entrance examination is that candidates must have completed their I. Sc or equivalent examination. The qualifying mark for this examination is 50% for women students and students belonging to general and backward category and 40% for candidates falling under SC/ST category. Each year, the admission process is completed before the end of the month of September.

Internship programme:

As mentioned earlier, the MBBS course offered by the college includes compulsory internship.  The internship programme is divided as 15 days for casualty, 15 days for ophthalmology, 15 days for pediatrics, 15 days for welfare planning, 15 days for ortho, 15 days for obstetrics/gynecology, two months for surgery including orthopedics, two months for medicine and three months for community medicine.

Examinations:

The duration of the course is 4.5 years, which is divided into nine semesters and the semester examination is conducted once in six months. Four university examinations are conducted and candidates succeeding in these examinations are offered with internship programme.
