Banasthali University popularly known as Banasthali Vidyapith in Hindi was established in the year 1935 on the 6th of October by Pandit Heera Lal Shastri and Ratan Shastri in memory of their daughter Shantabai, who passed away suddenly. It is because of this reason that all the hostels in the university are named after Shantabai like Shri Shanta Kuteer, Shri Shanta Niwas, etc…The university was formed as women university since Shatabai was a social worker working for the cause of women upliftment. The university was given its present name only in the year 1943 when under-graduation courses were introduced. The University Grants Commission has awarded the university with the status of deemed university in the year 1983. It was also awarded with autonomous status in such a way that the university can formulate, innovate and experiment its own curriculum and other activities. The aim of Banasthali University is the synthesis of scientific achievements and spiritual values of the western and eastern part of the country. The educational curriculum followed by the university aims at development of all round personality of the students. The university is offering several scholarships to outstanding students in the form of financial aid. The website of the university has the facility to browse through the books that are stocked in the library and this is named as Banasthali online library. Apart from shining in the educational field, the students of the university are making their mark in extra-curricular activities like games and sports. They have won several awards in games like lathi, lezium, javelin, yogasanas, sword fighting, etc…and these sports are taught to students to well-trained professional teachers.
