Panjab University was established in the year 1882 at Lahore (now in the country of Pakistan). The main aim of Panjab University is to impart education in learned professions, science, letters and arts and making further development in learning, execution of original research, to maintain and equip university colleges, museums, laboratories and libraries and to make regulations with respect to conduct of students. After the partition of India and Pakistan in the year 1947, the university functioned without its own campus for nearly a decade and the administrative office was located at Solan and teaching departments were functioning from Amristar, Delhi, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur. Only in the year 1956, the university was relocated to Chandigarh campus, which is spread over 550 acres and includes hostel, a sports complex, residential area apart from health centre and administrative building.
