Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan is an educational organization located in the city of New Delhi and it was established in the year 1970 for encouragement, development and propagation of Sanskrit research and learning. It is a deemed university, wholly funded by the Indian Government. The university offers distance education and regular courses as well and it has been conferred with the status of Deemed to be University as on the month of June 2008 under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956. Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan has been granted deemed university status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India.

The Indian government has formulated different programmes and schemes for the development of Sanskrit education and those schemes are implemented through Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and other agencies. For fulfillment of its objective and for execution of schemes, Rashtriya Sansthan undertakes the following activities:

• Establishment of manuscript collection centres, Sanskrit libraries and editing centers and publishing houses for books of importance and rare manuscripts

• Running correspondence courses for offering Sanskrit education

• Implementation of schemes of the Ministry of HRD for promotion of the holy language of Sanskrit

• Coordination of research work in different disciplines of Sanskrit learning

• Imparting Sanskrit teacher’s training at graduation and post graduation level

• Conducting teaching of Sanskrit of traditional lines at secondary, doctorate level, post graduation and graduation level

• Establishment of campuses in different states

Correspondence course:

In addition to the aforesaid regular courses, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan also offers correspondence course for learning Sanskrit Language through English and Hindi medium for general learners for Sanskrit in the nation and abroad at two levels namely:

• Introductory course in Sanskrit 1st Year

• Introductory course in Sanskrit 2nd year

For the regular courses offered by Rashtriya Sanskrit different educational qualification requirements need to be fulfilled by the candidates. For instance, the minimum educational qualification requirement for the lower level course being Prathma is just class V and the utmost educational qualification requirement for the highest-level course being Vidyavaridhi is Acharya or its equivalent course in Sanskrit with minimum 55% of marks.
