University of Petroleum & Energy Studies shortly called as UPES holds the pride of being the first energy university in India and in Asia and it is only Energy & Core sector university. The university offers 42 UG, PG and doctoral courses to more than 4000 students in the high growth sectors of logistics & supply chain, information technology, electronics, infrastructure, automobile, shipping, aviation, power and oil & gas.

UPES’s centre for continuing education and aviation studies offer executive programmes through distance learning mode for the sake of working professionals. The university came into existence in the year 2003 as a statutory university through an Act of the state legislature of the state of Uttarakhand. The campus of the university is spread over an area of 27 acres  and the Pondha Vally of the city of Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand.

University of Petroleum & Energy Studies offer these courses through its College of Energy Studies, College of Legal Studies, College of Management Economics Studies and College of Engineering Studies. Admissions to BBA courses offered by the university is done based on the performance of the students in Group discussions and interview, while for MBA courses, admission is done based on UPES Management Entrance Test followed by Group Discussion and interview. UPES Management Entrance Test is an examination conducted by the university at the national level. For B. Tech courses, admission is done based on UPES Engineering Aptitude Test (UPESEAT)/Board Merit/AIEEE followed by central counseling. For M. Tech courses, admission is based on screening of application and interview. While for legal courses, admissions is done based on UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test or boar merit or CLAT merit/LSAT Merit followed by GD and interview.
