University of Rajasthan was established in the year 1947 on the 8th of January in the name of Rajputana University with the objective of catering to the educational requirements of the people of Rajasthan. The university was given its present name in the year 1956. Initially, the jurisdiction of this university was spread over the whole state of Rajasthan and later with the formation of other universities its jurisdiction was reduced. It is a multi-faculty university approved by the University Grants Commission having six constituent colleges, 500 affiliated colleges, 15 recognized research centres and 36 post graduate departments spread over six districts of Rajasthan.
