Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology is shortly called as VSSUT and the university was previously working as College of Engineering. VSSUT is located in the city of Burla, which is the home town of the Sambalpur University. The institute came into existence as a college in the year 1956 and the institute recently celebrated its golden jubilee in the year 2006. The institute is popular for its academic rigor of its programs and it is one of the oldest technical institutions in the nation and it was official renamed with its present name in the year 2009 on the 12th of February. During this year, the institution was conferred with the status of an unitary university by the Government of Orissa.

VSSUT offers courses through its different departments like mathematics, humanities, chemistry, physics, information technology, computer science & engineering, computer applications, civil engineering, manufacturing science & engineering, electronics & telecommunication engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. After having earned the status of university, the institution has conducted three convocations on the 26th of February 2010, 9th of October 2010 and 6th of August 2011.
