Master of Surgery in Ayurveda is a post graduate course which deals with the diagnosis of surgical disorders, surgical techniques and surgical emergency management etc. the course duration is for three years in which the candidate need to study compulsory subjects in the first year and choose their own specializations from the second year onwards.

Advantages or Benefits of Doing Master of Surgery

Those candidates with a post graduate degree in ayurveda are eligible to register in the Central or State Government Ayurvedic Boards and can practice all over India. They also enjoy a reputed position like any other post graduate in medicine. They can to take up a position as doctor under the central and state government services in Ayurvedic medicines.

Many people prefer ayurveda as compared to other medicines .The many reason behind this trend is that ayurvedic medicine is considered not to have any side effects and is also proved very effective for certain diseases. This increases the demand for ayurvedic practitioners which lead to the increase in job opportunities and pay in this field.

Ayurvedic medicine is widely accepted in foreign countries which provide a lucrative career for those candidates who wish to set up a career abroad .Ayurveda has proved its effectiveness for certain ailments, where other fields of medicines has proved to be ineffective. Eligibility Criteria for MS ( AYU) program

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery Degree is the basic qualification needed for the candidate to do a post graduation in ayurveda. Candidates with 4 ½ years with 12 months internship or five years BAMS course with  6 months internship are eligible to apply for the same. The upper age limit for applying is normally 35 years of age and it can vary according to the institute the candidate has applied for the course. Medical Council of India has also recognized MBBS degree graduates to be eligible for this course.

Admission Procedure for MS ( AYU) program

The candidate should clear an entrance test for getting admission to post graduate degree in ayurveda. The selection pattern will be based on the index mark score of the candidate for the entrance test along with the final degree written examination marks of the candidate. The total index mark is out of 100 in which 80 marks is for the entrance examination and 20 marks for the qualifying examination. The questions are of objective type from Ayurvedacharya regulated by CCIM. The general category students need a score of 50% to get admission while 40% is enough for reserved category. The candidates are given a chance to change their specialization till the second month after the candidate has got admission in the institute with the permission of the guide in that specific department.

How to fill in MS ( AYU) Entrance Application form?

The candidates who are planning to do MS in Ayurveda can get the application form from the authority in charge of the examination in person, by post or through online mode. The candidate need to fill the application in their own handwriting in block letters and need to confirm that the information entered in the application is true and correct before sending. Those applying through online mode need to go through the information available in the website and then can fill the form so that errors that occur while filling the form can be avoided. The candidate should make sure that the application should reach the concerned authority before the last date as specified in the form irrespective of the modes used.

MS ( AYU) Entrance Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of the test varies according to the university and institute chosen by the candidate for the post graduation course. MCQ questions with answer choices will be given normally and the candidate need to choose the right answer from the answer choices. Three and half hours is the time duration for answering 250-to 300 questions. The questions will be from the syllabus of BHMS program from the following areas:

MS (AYU) course curriculum

The course duration is normally 3 years in which the first year is for specialization and the second and third year is set for specialization. The candidates with 75 % attendance in Practical’s Clinical Tutorials Lectures are only allowed to write the final examination. Students are given practical experience to attend hospital and other duties during the course of their studies.  Clinical Registrar’s duty is also done by the students in their departments during the final two years. Graduate teachers can also attend the post graduate training as a regular student if they possess three year experience in the teaching field. The subjects includes,

MS ( AYU) Course Evaluation

The evaluation pattern followed in the test can be divided into two parts.

  • Examination at the end of first year for the general subjects.
  • Examination after another two years after the completion of the specialization course.

The first part of the exam is conducted in the month of June or July and the second part in the month of   November or December. The student before attending the second part of the examination should clear all the papers in the first year before the final exam. Practical exams will be conducted for the specialization subjects along with viva –voice

The practical, clinical and oral examination follows the below mentioned rules:

  • The examiner is appointed only for a period of 3 years.
  • The examiner shall posses teaching experience of 5 years in post graduate teaching.
  • Medium of instructions shall be in English, Hindi or Sanskrit.

Remuneration after MS ( AYU)

Ayurvedic doctors are paid with a basic salary of around Rs. 20000 in the public sector and the pay is further high in the private sector. Those with experience will get placed in reputed institutes which will increase their earning. Those who are self employed will get an income based on the effort they put into their work. The candidates working in tourism field, star hotels etc will get a pay based on the field in which they are employed.
