The Maulana Azad National Institute of technology or the NIT was established in the year 1960 and since then it is continuously moving towards the path of success. The Institute originally had an intake 120 number of students with just seven faculty members in the team of faculty. The Institute is built on total land area of more than 36,343 square meters with the academic area of about 265 hectares.

The Institute offers various courses in both graduate and under graduate levels. The courses at under graduate level students include engineering courses in various fields of civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication etc. all these are of duration 2 years. The courses at the post graduation level includes the various m. Tech. courses under many disciplines and MCA.

The various facilities in the institute include a new computer centre that is under development right now and will contain the latest high speed and performance giving processors with other resource support as well. The Institute has a large central library which supports all the courses offered by the institute which also contain other study materials like e-books, journals and other digital resources for better understanding of the subject. The Institute also has other facilities like a big auditorium, gymnastic hall taking into account the need for sports and a large number of play fields with the new sports complex that is planned to be built in the near future.

The institute also offers hostel facility for the students who stay away from the campus and needs it can avail the facility. The land area under hostels is more than thirteen thousand square meters. There are in total five hostels for boys with the capacity of 1200 students and 1 hostel for girls with the accommodation facility for 200 students. The hostels also have some additional indoor, outdoor games facilities.
