Among the list of subjects in the National Eligibility Test, French is also there. This subject is opted by those who have studied French at the post graduate level. There are two papers on the subject- Paper II and Paper III. The Paper III of French is being discussed here in details.

Minimum Qualification:

For being eligible to sit for the NET, one has to secure at least 55% (50% for SC/ST) marks in the post graduation, without any rounding off of marks and without any grace marks. Also, students will be allowed to take up only the subject that they have studied in, or was a part of, their Master’s degree. In case the subject is not in the list of subjects, one can choose a subject which is related to one’s discipline of post graduation. People in the final year of the Post graduation can also apply, provided they get the final result as required by the conditions of appearing for NET.

Negative Marking:

French paper III has no negative marking in it.

Mode of Exam:

It is a conventional test with subjective answers. Students have to write their answers on the answer sheet provided.

Format:

There are both objective and subjective type questions in French Paper III.

Paper Pattern:

There are four sections in the question paper. Section I has five questions based on a paragraph, each carrying 5 marks. Section II has fifteen questions, each carrying 5 marks. Section III has questions from the elective. Students have to choose one elective and answer all questions from it. There are five questions in this section, each carrying 12 marks. Section IV consists of an essay of 40 marks.

Marks:

The paper is of 200 marks in total.

Time Allotted:

The duration of the test is 2½ hours.
