National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC)on an annual basis in order to attain the eligibility by the candidates in Lectureships as well as for awarding the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to the national candidates through which they can be rewarded with an entrant in the higher research programmes as well as in the teaching jobs. The paper has a maximum of fifty questions, each carrying a maximum of two marks. Candidates have to attempt all of them. Thus the maximum marks of the paper is one hundred.

The time duration for the paper is one hours and fifteen minutes. Each of the questions is Multiple Choice Type and candidates have to choose any one, from an option of four and have to mark the same in the OMR Sheet. Any usages of the log tables or any types of calculator are strictly forbidden in the exam. There is no negative marking observed in the paper. The papers have question based on poems. It is better for the candidates to go through different previous years question in order to secure a very high mark in the papers.
