Common Proficiency Test is the entry level test for admission to Chartered Accountancy course. Those who have passed matriculation are eligible to apply for this entrance test. This objective type test comprises questions from topics such as Accounting fundamentals, General Economics, Mercantile Law, and Quantitative Aptitude. Candidates can apply for this test online as well as offline. One must follow certain steps while submitting the application through online method.

Online Application Process for Common Proficiency Test

Aspirants are required to apply online through the official website of Chartered Accountants of India. On registering with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India they are eligible to apply for the examination.

Candidates are required to create a new account in the official website of the institute as part of application procedure. Candidates will have to submit a valid email id and mobile number as part of registration.

Those who have successfully registered for membership shall receive a system generated user name as well as password to their email and mobile phone for future log in. Such candidates are required to login with the user id and password and fill up the online application form as per the given instructions. Aspirants can also pay the examination fee through online method. This amounts to Rs. 500/- and it can be remitted through Credit or Debit card.

On successfully submitting the application, candidates are required to take a print out of application in A4 size paper. They will have to affix a passport size photograph in the space provided. Candidates have to sign the application in Black ink pen and get it attested by a gazetted officer.

Attested true copy should be sent by Speed Post/ Registered Post to “Additional Secretary (Exams), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi - 110 002” within stipulated time. Late application will be rejected without intimation.

Exam Pattern of Common Proficiency Test

Candidates can expect multiple choice objective type questions in Common Proficiency Test. The exam comprises of two papers. Each section carries hundred marks. The maximum time allotted to answer all the questions is four hours. There will be questions for 60 marks from the topic, Fundamentals of Accounting, 40 marks from Mercantile Law, 50 marks from General Economics and 50 marks from Quantitative Aptitude. Each question carries one mark. There will be negative marking of .25 for every wrong answer.  Candidates are required to secure a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate so as to clear the exam. Medium of instruction will be in Hindi or English Language. Candidates have the option to answer the questions in Hindi also.
