The Regional Institute of Education previously called as Regional College of Education came into existence in the year 1963 and it is one among the five institutions established by the National Council of Education Research and Training located in New Delhi. The other four institutions established by the NCERT are located in Shillong, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Ajmer.

All these regional institutions inclusive of the one located Mysore were established with the objective of qualitative improvement of school education through innovative in-service and pre-service teacher training programmes and appropriate research, extension and developmental activities.

The Regional Institute of Education offers the following courses with affiliation from the University of Mysore:

Eligibility requirement:

For applying to the B. Sc Ed., B.A. Ed., and M. Sc Ed. Courses, candidates must have completed their PUC or equivalent examination with at least 45% of aggregate marks and they must have passed their exams with the appropriate combination of subjects mentioned earlier under each of these courses. For applying to the Master of Education course, candidates must have completed their B.A. Ed, B. Sc Ed or B. Ed course with not less than 50% of aggregate marks and candidates with PG degree will be given appropriate weightage in the process of admission.

Location of Regional Institute of Education, Mysore:

The campus of Regional Institute of Education at Mysore is located to the west of the city of Mysore on a picturesque and sprawling campus spread over 120 acres of land and it is located at a distance of about 6 kms from the central bus-stand and at about 5 kms from the railway station of the city of Mysore and it is easily accessible by public transportation vehicles.
