Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany is named after its founder, Professor Birbal Sahni. The foundation stone for the new building of the institute was laid by Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The institute was included in the Technical Assistance Programme of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The institute actually functions as an autonomous research organization. The institute was funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr. Naresh Chandra Mehrotra is the Director of the institute.

Applications in the prescribed format are invited from eligible candidates for the following vacant positions of Scientist-D, Scientist-C and Scientist-B in Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany. Only eligible Indian Citizens are invited to apply.

1. Recruitment of Scientist ‘D’:

Age Limit: Upper age limit is 45 years.
Educational Qualification: M.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics or Physics with minimum 65% marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. Candidates should also have atleast 10 years of research experience in Geochronology.
Pay Scale: Rs. 15600-39100 with a Grade Pay of Rs. 7600.

2. Recruitment of Scientist ‘C’:

Age Limit: Upper age limit is 40 years.
Educational Qualification: M.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics or Physics with minimum 65% marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. Candidates should also have atleast 7 years of research experience in Geochronology.
Pay Scale: Rs. 15600-39100 with a Grade Pay of Rs. 7600.

3. Recruitment of Scientist ‘B’:

Age Limit: Upper age limit is 35 years.
Educational Qualification: M.Sc. in Geology or Geophysics or Physics with minimum 65%marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. Candidates should also have atleast 3 years of research experience in Geochronology.

4. Recruitment of Scientist ‘B’:

Educational Qualification: M.Sc. in Botany or Geology with minimum 65%marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. Candidates should also have atleast 3 years of research experience in Palaeobotany.

5. Recruitment of Scientist ‘B’:

Age Limit: Upper age limit is 35 years.
Educational Qualification: M.Sc. in Botany or Geology with minimum 65%marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or university. Candidates should also have atleast 3 years of research experience in Palaeobotany.
